Did You Know In Bordeaux?

In 1945, Chateau Mouton-Rothschild began a series of artists’ labels, hiring a different artist each year to design a unique label for that vintage. The artists have included such notables as Chagall, Picasso, Miro and Warhol. The 1993 label was sufficiently controversial in this country (the stylized juvenile nude on the label offended the Political Correctness Police) that the Chateau withdrew the label and substituted a blank label instead.

BAJOZ CRIANZA, TORO 2004

Posted in Reviews on February 25, 2010 by Wineoceros

This is 100% Tinta de Toro (a.k.a. Tempranillo) hand-picked from vines with an average age of 50 years old. The nose is bright and attractive with sweet strawberry, red cherry, rhubarb and toasty oak aromas. Dry with a creamy texture and good weight, featuring juicy flavours of tangy berries, grapes, licorice and vanilla bean leading to a medium-long creamy finish. Serve this tasty wine with hearty winter stews, pasta with grilled spicy sausage, or roasted chicken.

EUGENIO COLLAVINI BLANC FUMÂT SAUVIGNON 2008
DOC Collio
TASTING NOTE: Aromatic nose evocative of
white peach, cantaloupe and yellow pepper. Like
flavors are replicated on the palate with added
hints of lemon and cream. Wonderfully balanced
and crisp. Lingering, steely finish. Score – 93.

KILIKANOON COVENANT SHIRAZ 2004

Posted in Reviews on February 19, 2010 by Wineoceros

KILIKANOON COVENANT SHIRAZ 2004
Clare Valley, South Australia
Vintages January/Classics Catalog

TASTING NOTE: The spectacular 2004
Shiraz Covenant, essentially declassified
fruit not used for the Shiraz Oracle,
spent 22 months in 80% French and
20% American 300 liter hogsheads.
In fact, Kilikanoon does not use any
small barrels, preferring the larger
300 liter vessels. Perhaps that accounts
for the glorious levels of fruit and
subtle oak influence in even the more
expensive cuvees that are aged in
100% new oak. The dense, plum/
purple-hued, full-bodied Shiraz
Covenant exhibits notes of tapenade,
blackberries, asphalt, truffles, and
roasted meats. With a gorgeous texture
as well as good opulence, vibrancy,
and definition, it can be consumed
over the next 7-10 years. Score – 94.
